Overcoming the “Academic Pressure Cooker”

The completion of your coursework, which include essay writing assignments and dissertations, can be tough to accomplish. It is especially harder for most of you who are still starting out in their university life. Lectures, essays, rhetoric and research are just some you have to handle in your increasingly expanding list of tasks. You will eventually feel that you are under a “pressure cooker” due to too much stress.

The usual route you might take when under the academic pressure cooker is to cram your essay writing task a day before it is due. However, this can easily undermine the quality of your essay—and ultimately, your academic performance—since your work is not well thought out and well-researched.

There is a way to overcome the academic pressure: planning and time management. The common mistake you have is the perception that you have to complete your essay in one sitting. You further believe that you only start writing once you have figured everything out in your head. This is not the case.

If your professor gives you an essay writing assignment, take careful note of the deadline of its submission. This will guide you in identifying how much time you can work on your essay so you can already break down the tasks you have to do within the allotted time. Your essay is equally important as your other coursework duties so give yourself enough time to finish it.
